Memorizing and reciting the Noble Quran has been the main purpose for which the centers of the Noble Quran have been established, and this is attributed to the interest of the State of Kuwait, since the past, in teaching the Noble Quran in mosques. This noble tradition was created by the Kuwaiti ancestors, then the Islamic Studies Department , under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs followed this noble tradition and kept on teaching the Noble Quran and spreading its sciences among Muslims of different nationalities and different levels of education.
The Ministry established the first House of the Noble Quran in 1971 in the Capital city where a reasonable number of men joined that center to memorize the Noble Quran. The staff of the Ministry continued their efforts and established a center for women to memorize the Holy Quran in 1977 in Um Attiya Al-Ansariya school, Abdullah Al-Salem suburb. The first batch of men graduated in 1977 and were good teachers of the Noble Quran in their society. The first batch of women graduated in 1983.
The Islamic Studies Department , Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is proud of this noble achievement which serves the Noble Quran as thousands of students who memorized the Noble Quran graduated and spread the sciences of Quran in their societies.
Today, thanks to Almighty Allah, and after 32 years have elapsed since the first House of the Noble Quran was established, the number of centers of the Noble Quran increased and amounted 53 centers for men and women to teach the Noble Quran and its sciences. About 15,000 male and female students from different nationalities are studying and some of them have assumed administrative positions. Due to the growing number of students and the number of centers that have been established by the Ministry for men and women in the six governorates of the state of Kuwait , the tuition system had to be modernized in order to cope up with the modern culture and new globalization. In 1978, the Ministry of Awqaf established the Islamic Studies Institute to meet the juristic needs of the society and teach the Noble Quran in mosques, and in 1984, the first women institute was inaugurated.
The Ministry also established Al-Rashad centre in the central Jail and Al-Hidaiya centre in the Public Jail of the Ministry of Interior. Moreover, the Ministry inaugurated Al-Taqweem centre in the Social Reform Centre which belongs to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in 2001 in order to teach the Noble Quran to the different segments of the society.
The Ministry also gave the opportunity to the Muslim communities living in Kuwait so, it established two centers for the Urdu speakers in Farwaniya and Fahaheel towns. Today, the Ministry is considering opening new centers due to the big audience who are interested in studying the juristic studies. The Ministry is also considering opening a new centre of the Noble Quran in the English language in order to serve the foreign Muslim communities living in the State of Kuwait.
The Ministry is exerting these efforts out of its believing in its role of serving the Noble Quran and teaching it, as Prophet Muhammad said:" the best of you is who learns the Quran and teaches it".
May Almighty Allah bless this great edifice which serves the constitution of Muslims and assist those who are in charge of the governmental and non-governmental institutions to serve the Noble Quran to be a lantern that guides people through ignorance and darkness. Our last supplication is that all praise be to Allah, Lord of Alamyin( mankind, jinn, and all that exits).
